SHORT SUMMARY OF SCIENTIFIC LIFE

Alex Ricoveri (Italy, 1991) got a BSc (2016) and MSc (2020) in Environmental Science. In his bachelor's thesis, he worked on the use of isotopic techniques in monitoring waste disposal plants such as the Buriano landfill. During the master thesis he monitored a pilot scale reactor with anammox granular sludge. Subsequently, after his master degree he did an Erasmus+ internship at Laboratory Industrial Wastewater and EcoTechnology (LIWET), Ghent University. In this period, he performed experiments also with a lab-scale Oxigen Limited Anaerobic Nitrifing Denitrifing (OLAND) reactor treating landfill leachate. In the year 2022, he initiated an International Doctorate program in Environmental Engineering at the University of Florence. He is enrolled in a PhD course in Environmental Science at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, based on a cotutelle agreement between the two institutions. The PhD project has an industrial partner, Italprogetti S.p.A. The research topic is related to the biological processes for treatment and resource recovery from saline wastewater based on the selection of halophilic and halotolerant microbial consortia.

Alex’s current research interests are:

  • Biological treatment hypersaline wastewater
  • Diethylen glycol biodegradability in saline wastewater
