SHORT SUMMARY OF SCIENTIFIC LIFE
Pía Oyarzúa Alarcón (Concepción, 1986) is degreed in Bioengineering (Universidad de Concepción, 2010) and MSc in Microbiology (Universidad de Concepción, 2012). Until 2017 she was part of the Plant Health team of the Faculty of Agronomy at the University of Concepcion, where she was developed as Chief of Laboratory, co-investigator and researcher in several biotechnology and agricultural projects.
At GENOCOV, she is currently a PhD student in Environmental Science and Technology and she is working on understanding the dynamics and bacterial community composition in the autotrophic biological nitrogen removal from urban wastewater.
Pía’s current research interests are:
Using omics data analysis to characterize the bacterial communities and synergies in an anammox reactor treating urban wastewater.
Determine gene expression of anammox bacteria during the operation of a reactor treating urban wastewater.
