SHORT SUMMARY OF SCIENTIFIC LIFE
Gabriela Montiel Jarillo (México, 1988) has studied chemistry (UAEH, 2009) and a master degree in Environmental Science with specialization in Environmental Technology (UAB, 2014) with the thesis entitled “Influence of pH in the accumulation of polyhydroxyalkanoates using mixed cultures”. The topic of this research was to gain understanding about the production of polyhydroxyalkanoates alongside wastewater treatment by using mixed cultures. This work was focused in the study of the optimal conditions to achieve the biological nutrient removal and biopolymers production.
Actually she is part of GENOCOV (UAB) as doctoral student to continue with the research of the optimal conditions to achieve the production of biopolymers (EPS and PHA) alongside industrial wastewater treatment using mixed cultures.
Gabriela’s current research interests are:
- Operation of novel configurations for an efficient biological nutrient (i.e. organic matter, phenolic compounds, nitrogen and phosphorus) removal processes for urban/industrial wastewaters
- Biological processes focused on the biodegradable polymer (polyhydroxyalkanoates, PHA) production
- Development and optimization of biological processes for the valorization of industrial wastes
- Microbial storage polymers
