SHORT SUMMARY OF SCIENTIFIC LIFE
Cecilia Polizzi (Trapani, Italy 1998) holds a bachelor degree and MSc in Environmental Engineering from the University of Padova (IT). During her master degree she experienced a six-month internship at the Environmental Science Department of the University of Lund (Sweden), working on her thesis on ASM1-based dynamic simulations of a high loaded activated sludge plant as pretreatment for deammonification in the mainstream. After her master’s degree, she held temporary research fellowships for three years at the University of Florence, during which she spent 16 months at the IPICYT- Istituto Potosino de Investicacion Cientifica Y Tecnologica (San Luis de Potosì, Mexico). During these years, her main research topic was anaerobic digestion of solid waste from tannery industry and batch test modelling. Since November 2017 she is PhD student at the University of Florence, with a joint agreement with the UAB Environmental Science and Technology PhD program, working on integrated autotrophic anaerobic treatments by coupling S-driven denitratation and anammox processes.
At Genocov, Cecilia is working on sulphide-driven denitrification oriented to stable accumulation on nitrite and complete sulphide removal.
Cecilia’s current research interests are:
• Sulphur-based denitratation
• Anammox synergy with sulphur oxiding bacteria
• Modelling of bio-process with suspended biomass and plant-wide modelling
