SHORT SUMMARY OF SCIENTIFIC LIFE
CARLOS CHAN PACHECO was born in Mérida, Yucatán, México (1982). He studied Chemical Engineering (Instituto Tecnológico de Mérida, 2006) and has a master degree in Environmental Engineering (Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, 2010). Nowadays he is doing a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Technology at Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB). His research interests are:
- Fluidized bed reactors
- Evaluation of water quality of coastal areas
- Monitoring heavy metals in freshwater bodies
- Environmental impact assessment
The topic of his PhD research, started in 2014, is phosphorus recovery from wastewater with a combination of biological (Enhanced Biological Phosphorus Removal) and chemical processes. He is supervised by Dr. Juan Baeza Labat and Dr. Albert Guisasola Canudas. He is nowadays developing a novel configuration for P recovery included in a future energy-efficient WWTP.
