Short summary of scientific life
Àlex Martínez i Miró (Sabadell, Barcelona - 1992) is a chemical engineer (UAB, 2014) and Master in Environmental and Biological Engineering (UAB, 2016). His Master thesis is focused on the monitoring and operation of a pilot plant based on microbial electrolysis cells (MEC), with the dual aim of treating wastewater and producing hydrogen, a potentially fuel gas. This research is included in a global project (PENSAR) about the production of sustainable energy from wastewater. Previously, during his Master’s first year, he worked on the study of microbial electrosynthesis cells (MES) at laboratory scale. The aim of this research was to demonstrate the feasibility of producing chemical commodities like acetate from CO2 and electricity using a mixed anaerobic culture.
Àlex’s research lines are:
- Understanding the fundamentals of bioelectrochemical systems for the valorization of wastewaters.
- Optimizing the scale-up of bioelectrochemical systems in view of improving energy recoveryand wastewater treatment.
