SHORT SUMMARY OF SCIENTIFIC LIFE

Aina Soler-Jofra (Barcelona, 1992) holds a degree in Biotechnology from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) (2010-2015) and MsC in Life Science and Technology from Delft University of Technology (TUD) (2015-2017). As part of her Biotechnology studies she performed a 6 months Erasmus+ internship in the Environmental Biotechnology Group in TUD studying abiotic N2O emissions from the nitrogen cycle. Later on, this project was followed during her 8 months master thesis project. As part of the master program, she also performed 3 months internship in IRTA (Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology) focusing on the impact of high nitrogen concentration in anaerobic digestion. Currently, she is PhD candidate in the Environmental Biotechnology Group from TUD, studying the role of hydroxylamine in the nitrogen cycle.

At GENOCOV, Aina will be studying the impact of hydroxyalmine in ammonium oxidizing bacteria and nitrite oxidizing bacteria and its implications in N2O emission by means of both respirometry tests and reactor operation.

Aina’s research interests are:

  • NO and N2O emissions in the nitrogen cycle.
  • Role of intermediates, such as hydroxylamine, when shaping microbial communities.
  • Understanding the metabolism of the microorganisms involved in partial nitritration/anammox technologies.
