The fifth meeting of the SMART-Plant project (“Scale-up of low-carbon footprint material recovery techniques in existing wastewater treatment plants”, http://smart-plant.eu/) was held in Lisbon (Portugal) on days 6 – 8 June 2018, with the participation of representatives from each of the 26 partners of the consortium.
On day 6, there was a joint Stakeholder Workshop “ECO-INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN WATER RESOURCE RECOVERY FACILITIES“ with SMART-Plant and INCOVER EU projects, which started with presentations of the three case studies of the INCOVER project and a project overview of SMART-Plant and flash presentation of the nine pilots and demo-sites. There was additional participation of Stakeholders: Pedro Povoa, Research and Innovation Dept. - Aguas de Portugal presented the interest and engagement of public water utilities, Bruno Ferreira, CEO – Biotrend SA showed the interest and engagement of biotechnology industry and Maria Eugenia Zacarias - Logoplaste Innovation Lab presented the Interest and engagement of the plastics industry. Finally there was a joint presentation of Juan Antonio Alvarez (INCOVER Coordinator) and Francesco Fatone (SMART-Plant coordinator) discussing the potential for a joint future to boost circular economy in the water sector.
On days 7 – 8 June 2018, there was the SMART-Plant project meeting. Juan Baeza and Zivko Juznic presented the updates of UAB in WP2 and WP4. The meeting included a full agenda with a brief overview of the implementation of the SMART-Plant work-plan, presentation of updates of every WP, a presentation from a guest company from pulp and paper industry, focus on downstream application and SMART-Products quality, ETV progress and risk mitigation measures, participation of Prof. Rui Cunha Marques as member of the steering committee, Focus on exploitation and a WEBINAR “IP in EU funded projects - Common pitfalls and IP challenges in collaborative research projects”.
