Elena Eijo is PhD student of the Sostenipra and GENOCOV research groups. She will be performing a 6-months PhD research stay in the Advanced Water Management Centre (AWMC) at the University of Queesland (Australia). This research stay is partially funded by an awarded grant by UAB. Elena is working closely with the AWMC PhD student Adam Shypanski under the supervision of Dr Keshab Sharma and Prof Zhiguo Yuan.
Elena’s research will highlight the contribution of methane, hydrogen sulphide and nitrous oxide emissions to the entire urban water cycle, by applying Life Cycle Assessment for environmental analysis of the wastewater networks. This will contribute towards the improvement of the wastewater management and also to the sustainability of the cities.
The research stay at AWMC will be focused in the modelling of sewer data collected by Elena in Barcelona and in several locations in Australia and also in performing laboratory experiments in a controlled environment (aerobic/anaerobic) in order to compare field and lab data involving the three studied gases to understand the biological processes leading to gas formation.
