New Publication – Filling in sewage sludge biodrying gaps: Greenhouse gases, volatile organic compounds and odour emissions

This work is a follow up of a fruitful collaboration between three research groups, two in the Department Chemical, Biological and Environmental Engineering (GENOCOV and GICOM) at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and a third one (BETA) in the University of Vic, in the benchmark of the PhD thesis of Daniel González. The paper describes some recent and exciting work in the characterization of gaseous emissions from sewage sludge biodrying. A complete study of the sewage sludge (SS) biodrying technology was conducted at pilot bench-scale, aiming at assessing its performance and providing a valuable insight into the different gaseous emission patterns found for greenhouse gases (GHG) and odorant pollutants during the biodrying process. Emission factors for odour, GHGs and other gaseous compounds were reported, being the first time that a complete characterization of gaseous emissions for the sewage sludge biodrying process is reported.
