RECYCLES is an interdisciplinary and intersectoral project funded by the European Commission within the framework of Horizon 2020 (MSCA-RISE-2019 - Research and Innovation Staff Exchange), which is aimed at the circular economy in order to explore the potential synergies between the carbon, nitrogen and sulfur cycles present in wastewater and biogas treatment, reduce the cost of these treatments and be able to obtain value-added products. To achieve the goals, the consortium of 8 international collaborators (universities and companies) will work on innovation of process units based on partial nitrification by the nitrogen cycle, autotrophic denitrification on sulfur recovery and recovery of CO2 using multi-enzyme bioreactors to finally combine these biological processes into innovative global systems for wastewater treatment and biogas refining.
The start-up meeting of this project was held on January 24 and 25 at the UAB campus, more specifically at the School of Engineering and at the Marie Curie room at the Exe Campus hotel, with the presence of different representatives of all the academic institutions and private companies participating.
This project has received funding from the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 872053.
