1st PROJECT MEETING SMART-Plant H2020 Project - ECOMONDO 2016, 9-11 November 2016, Rimini, Italy
The first meeting of the SMART-Plant project (“Scale-up of low-carbon footprint material recovery techniques in existing wastewater treatment plants”) was held in Rimini (Italy) on days 9 -11 November 2016, with the participation of representatives from each of the 25 partners of the consortium. The Horizon2020 SMART-Plant project supports the water sector to improve and ensure environmental protection, become more adaptive, and respond to contemporary environmental and societal challenges by introducing innovative technological solutions, moving towards resource recovery approaches in wastewater management. SMART-plant will scale-up and demonstrate eco-innovative solutions to upgrade existing WWTPs.
On day 9, there was an event at the GLOBAL WATER EXPO about Ready-to-Market resource recovery technologies, organized by the SMART-Plant consortium and chaired by Dr. Willy Verstraete and Dr. Francesco Fatone. This workshop presented the key enabling technologies that will be implemented and verified at demo or full scale in Italy, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Israel and Spain within the SMART-Plant project.
On days 10-11 November 2016, there was the project meeting with a first session with presentations of the Italian SMART-Plant Stakeholders UTILITALIA, CAP Holding, Gruppo HERA and Ministry of Environment. Then, the members of the steering committee were introduced: Willy Verstraete, Giuseppe Mininni and Durk Krol, and was followed by a brief overview of the implementation of the SMART-Plant work-plan. Current progress and forthcoming activities of the Work-packages were discussed in the following sessions. Juan Antonio Baeza participated as WP2 leader chairing the session showing the current progress about SMARTEchs 1, 2a, 2b and 3. Other matters examined were the progress of the EU-ETV verification procedure for selected technologies, its possible exploitation and the creation of a Joint-Venture.
