SHORT SUMMARY OF SCIENTIFIC LIFE
Borja Solís Duran (Vilafranca del Penedès, 1993) is degreed in Chemical Engineering (UAB, 2015) and MSc in Biological and Environmental Engineering (UAB, 2017) with the thesis entitled “Hydraulic and Kinetic calibration of a full-scale WWTP. Study of the N2O emissions”. The topic of his research was to understand the calibration strategies of complex models in order to obtain a robust calibrated model with the minimum confidence interval of the parameters and the study of the operating conditions that trigger an increase of the N2O emissions. He is currently a PhD student in Environmental Science and Technology and his research is based on modelling different WWTP configurations in order to study the strategies for mitigate the GHG emissions. Along with the doctoral thesis, he is carrying out teaching tasks at the Department of Chemical Engineering in UAB, specifically in the Chemical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree.
Borja’s current research interests are:
- Model-based design of novel configurations for an efficient biological nutrient removal
- Model-based development and practical implementation of control strategies for an efficient operation of biological systems.
- Mathematical tools and sensitivity analysis for parameter estimation from experimental data in complex models
- Understanding and modelling N2O emissions in biological nutrient removal processes
